BMW has dropped the price of its all-electric i4 sedan to directly compete with the Tesla Model 3. The new eDrive35 variant starts at €53,550, making it a more affordable option for those looking to make the switch to electric.
What’s new in the eDrive35?
This base model features a rear-mounted electric motor producing 286 horsepower. While this is slightly less powerful than the higher-end eDrive40, the eDrive35 still offers brisk acceleration, hitting 62 mph in just 6 seconds. The battery capacity has been reduced to 68.0 kWh, resulting in a slightly shorter range of 483 km (WLTP).
A direct challenge to Tesla
With its competitive pricing and impressive features, the BMW i4 eDrive35 is clearly aimed at the Tesla Model 3. Both cars offer similar performance and range, but the BMW distinguishes itself with its premium interior, advanced technology, and extensive dealer network. While the Model 3 may have a slight edge in terms of charging infrastructure, BMW offers a year of free charging on the Ionity network.
Key features of the BMW i4 eDrive35:
- Affordable: Starting price undercuts the Tesla Model 3
- Performance: 0-62 mph in 6 seconds
- Range: Up to 483 km (WLTP)
- Features: LED lights, curved display, heat pump
- Charging: 11 kW AC and 180 kW DC charging
Is the BMW i4 eDrive35 the right choice for you?
With its combination of performance, luxury, and affordability, the BMW i4 eDrive35 offers a compelling alternative to the Tesla Model 3. However, it’s essential to consider factors such as your specific driving needs, charging infrastructure availability, and overall preferences.
