Welcome to 2026, fellow EV enthusiasts! Morocco is firmly establishing itself as Africa’s automotive powerhouse, and the electric vehicle (EV) sector is leading the charge. With local production ramping up, impressive sales forecasts, and sustained government support, this year promises to be a pivotal one for sustainable mobility in the Kingdom. At EV Morocco, we’re thrilled to be part of this transformation – especially when it comes to building the charging infrastructure that makes it all possible.

Explosive Growth in EV Sales and Adoption

According to recent industry reports from BMI (Fitch Solutions), Morocco’s EV market is set for continued strong expansion. After an 80% surge in 2025, passenger EV sales are projected to grow another 36.3% in 2026, reaching over 7,200 units. This will push market penetration to 3.4%, with battery electric vehicles (BEVs) making up around 4,248 units and plug-in hybrids (PHEVs) nearing 2,900.

The total EV fleet on Moroccan roads is expected to hit 18,200 by year-end – a clear sign that more drivers are embracing cleaner, more efficient transport. Affordable models from both local and international brands are driving this shift, making EVs accessible to a broader audience.

Local Production Takes Center Stage

One of the biggest stories this year is the launch of full-scale local EV manufacturing. Neo Motors, Morocco’s homegrown automaker, kicked off production of the Dial-E in January 2026 – the country’s first fully designed and assembled electric car. Priced around 100,000 MAD (approximately $11,000), this affordable urban EV is poised to make electric mobility a reality for everyday Moroccans.

We’re also seeing major global players deepen their footprint:

  • Tesla has established a subsidiary and is advancing plans for a high-capacity assembly plant in Kenitra.
  • Chinese brands like BYD (which already holds strong market share in PHEVs) and Zeekr are expanding sales and potential local operations.
  • Legacy manufacturers like Renault continue to innovate with new EV lines.

These developments reinforce Morocco’s position as Africa’s top vehicle producer, with ambitions to make 60% of production electric by 2030.

Government Incentives and Infrastructure Push

The Moroccan government continues to fuel this growth with attractive incentives: VAT exemptions, reduced customs duties, purchase bonuses (up to 100,000 MAD for businesses), and lower insurance rates. Combined with our abundant renewable energy potential (targeting 80% green power by 2050), going electric has never made more sense – both economically and environmentally.

That said, charging infrastructure remains a key focus area. While the network has grown to over 1,000 points in recent years, rapid expansion is needed to support the incoming wave of EVs. Plans from a few years ago aimed for 2,500 public stations by 2026, and we’re seeing steady progress in major cities like Casablanca, Rabat, and Marrakech.

Why Now is the Perfect Time to Go Electric

From lower running costs and zero emissions to quieter drives through our beautiful medinas and Atlantic highways, the benefits of EVs are undeniable. Whether you’re a city commuter, a business owner building a fleet, or a family looking for reliable transport, 2026 offers more choices than ever.

At EV Morocco, we’ve been at the forefront of this shift, providing tailored charging solutions across the country – from home installations and workplace stations to high-power commercial networks.
